- Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo, born on May 26, 1974, inherits a distinguished political legacy from his father, Ananga Udaya Singh Deo, and grandfather, Rajendra Narayan Singh Deo, who served as the Chief Minister of Odisha. A graduate in economics from St. Stephen’s College, Delhi University, Kalikesh is a versatile individual, representing India in shooting and basketball.
- In 2004, Kalikesh entered the political arena by becoming the youngest member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, representing the Saintala constituency. His early success paved the way for a dynamic political career. Over the years, he has held key positions, serving as a Member of Parliament in the Lok Sabha from Bolangir in 2009 and leading the Biju Janata Dal political party.
- Kalikesh’s commitment to sustainable development is evident through his active role as a member of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Petroleum & Natural Gas. He strategically focuses on livelihood and climate change issues, making significant strides in policy discussions.
- In 2012, Kalikesh initiated a private member’s bill on climate change, showcasing his forward-thinking approach. He has been at the forefront of discussions on sustainable development, clean energy, and climate change in various parliamentary sessions.
- His electoral journey is marked by achievements, having been re-elected for the second term in the 16th Lok Sabha from 2014 onwards. Prior to his national role, Kalikesh made history as the youngest member of the Odisha Legislative Assembly in 2004, securing a victory in the Saintala constituency.
- Beyond politics, Kalikesh Narayan Singh Deo serves as the Chairman of the Odisha Housing Board and holds the prestigious position of President of the National Rifle Association of India. His global engagements include speaking at the UN Peace Conference in Bangkok and the UN HIV AIDS conference in Bali.
